Painter

Job Description Summary 

Paint Booth Station: Responsible for ensuring that primer and paint coverage meet Mid-Am Metal Forming standards. The painter is responsible for setting up the paint booths, reading work orders for accurate colors and exposures to be painted, the operation of electrostatic painting equipment, adjustment of equipment for optimal performance, positioning and technique, loading and reduction of solvent-based paints, thickness specification, and paint booth shut-down. Most paints applied are solvent-based, though there will be a small percentage that is powder. 

Daily preparedness of the painter consists of turning the automated system on, verifying that the equipment is operable, agitating the paint, and reducing to viscosity specification. Basic knowledge of paint flow, distance, manometer readings, wet mil thickness testing, and technical proficiency with the ability to apply even coats of paint while controlling the thickness is required. 

Paint Booth Station shut down: Changing filters, flushing paint lines, cleaning the ceiling and walls, and sweeping.  

Secondary responsibilities include, but not limited to, hanging product, sanding rework pieces, and returning all tools and work aids to their respective nightly storage areas.

Job Requirements and Skills 

•Must be able to stand for long periods of time 

•Must be able to bend and stoop 

•Must have good shoulder range of motion 

•Must be able to lift 75 lbs. consistently 

•Must be able to follow safety precautions, including use of a respirator  

•Must be able to work safely around fumes, dust, and chemicals 

•At least one year of painting experience is preferred.  Auto body paint experience is preferred. 

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED not required.

Some experience with hand tools and basic measuring devices helpful.
